Nasenyana Adoket Mia is a Development Finance practitioner and Founder of Imani Mavuno Group, a self-help microfinance group that aims to bridge the financial inclusion gap for low-income women in Turkana County, Kenya. The group's microfinance model enables members to save money, receive loans, and secure emergency loans at low-interest rates, financially empowering them and reducing their dependency on aid and harmful practices. With 15 members, all young mothers, the group has achieved significant growth over the years, with KES 1,563,456 (USD 15,634.56) in savings and KES 758,586 (USD 7,585.86) realized from interests in 2022. The group's success is based on resources mobilized through monthly contributions and repayment of short-term loans, positively impacting the lives of members, their families, and the wider community. Mia's work earned her the ZURI award Finance category winner for 2022.
